Services
Atholl Accountancy is proud to offer a full range of business services from the more traditional bookkeeping and annual accounts through to strategic consultancy and business improvement advice.
Some of our services are listed below but because we offer a fully personalised service, not everything we can help with is listed here. If you need assistance in these or any other areas, please contact us to discuss your requirements and we can explore a tailored package of support.
Start-up package
Designed to get your business off to the best start, we will advise on the best form for your business, whether that be self employment as a sole trader or setting up as a limited company. We will do all required registrations with HMRC and Companies House on your behalf so that you can focus on building strong foundations for your business. We will also assess your record keeping requirements and help you choose the right bookkeeping system for your needs, and train you how to use it so that you have full control over
Bookkeeping
Recording the day-to-day transactions of the business at the time is invaluable, but it can also be time-consuming and difficult to keep up with when you are busy or when you have a high volume of transactions. We can offer a bookkeeping service to suit your needs, whether it be doing everything for you including processing of receipts, managing invoices, and more, or supporting you to do most of this yourself with the right software support and by carrying out monthly or quarterly reviews that will keep everything up-to-date.
Management accounts
Some businesses need more regular up-to-date information than their annual accounts provide. We offer a management accounts service tailored to reflect the specific requirements of your business. Management accounts are financial reports which usually include a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet and show you your current financial position in detail. They can be prepared on an ad hoc or regular basis and qualitative information can be added to provide deeper analysis.
Annual accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies
There is no statutory requirement to produce accounts if you are a sole trader or partnership, however it is still advisable for most to do so both to help the effective management of your business and for tax purposes. Following your financial year end, accounts will be prepared and will then form the basis of your tax returns.
Limited company accounts must be provided in statutory format by a strict deadline to avoid late filing penalties. Following your financial year end we will prepare your accounts and all relevant disclosures and submit by the filing deadline. As standard your accounts will be prepared in two formats, the full accounts for your records and abridged accounts for filing at Companies House.
Company secretarial services
As well as statutory accounts, limited companies must keep their statutory records up-to-date. Companies House must be notified of any changes and all details confirmed annually in standard forms via a confirmation statement. We can submit these on your behalf electronically and ensure that the Companies House record remains correct.
Payroll services
Managing payroll has become much more complex and time-consuming in recent years due to changing legislation. We can run your payroll and deal with all related compliance such as HMRC submissions, pension requirements, maternity and sickness pay.
Consultancy
Given our extensive experience, we offer specialist consultancy services that go beyond the scope of traditional accountancy support. We can work with you on a project in the following areas and more:
- Business planning
- Cashflow forecasting
- Research & Development tax claims
- Due diligence
Tax services
We provide a variety of tax services as detailed below.
-
VAT returns
If your business is VAT registered we can help you meet the reporting requirements and ensure you are compliant with Making Tax Digital rules. If you opt for bookkeeping services, VAT returns are prepared and submitted on your behalf. If you prefer to do your own bookkeeping, we can prepare the return using your records.
- Self Assessment
All sole traders, partners and company directors are required to complete a self assessment tax return each year. These returns are included as part of the accounts service. We also offer a tax only service for those who need to complete a tax return for other reasons.
- Corporation Tax returns
All limited companies must submit a corporation tax return alongside their annual accounts. We will calculate all tax liabilities when preparing the accounts. We will then complete and submit the return in the format required by HMRC.
- Tax Planning
Tax planning services can take a number of forms but the aim is always the same – to structure things in such a manner as to minimise the amount of tax payable and ensure you have a clear understanding of what tax will be payable and when to avoid any nasty surprises. As part of our accounts service we will advise on any opportunities for tax saving we identify. We can also offer tax planning services in areas such as but not limited to:
- Capital gains tax planning
- Company car options
- Acquisition and disposal of asset
